The Domain Certificate is the most affordable type of SSL and it is issued very quickly (normally in minutes). It is recommended for websites that handle little sensitive information. It is less rigorous than Organization Validated (OV) and Extended Validated (EV) certificates, which can be acquired by malicious bots.
Domain Certification
The main requirement for a domain certification is that you own the domain. The CA will check the WHOIS record of the domain. Or, they can provide a verification file to validate on your website server. This will help protect your clients and ensure their security.
DCV Verification Methods
You can validate your domain in several different ways. However, the most common is to use eMail. Comodo sends an email to the administrative contact of the domain containing a unique code for validation and a link to their verification page. Once the domain owner replies, Comodo will verify their domain and issue their certificate immediately.
You can also check the WHOIS record of your domain through DNSimple, which is free. This will enable you to know the email address registered with the specific domain.

DV SSL Multi-Domain certificates
A DV multidomain certificate will protect multiple domains under one certificate. This allows you to secure both internal and external domains/subdomains under one installation and with a single renewal period.
Domain Registrar's Information
In this method, CA will check the information of domain registrar to directly verify ownership. The CA will reject the certificate if the registrar information is not publicly available.
To enable this option, simply select the "Upload a file" button on the last step of the SSL activation process. The Certificate Authority is then going to check the file that you have uploaded in your sub-folders, and will issue a DV SSL Certificate.
This process could take a long time, particularly if you are ordering a large number of FQDNs. Be sure to add all FQDNs before you complete this process.
Domain Authentication
A WHOIS lookup will be performed by the CA to verify that the domain was registered under the name of the person/company who submitted SSL application. The CA may send an email of verification to the admin contact or create DNS records to verify domain control.

Domain Authentication works for a broad range of applications - from small to medium businesses, non-profits and enterprise sites. It is the perfect solution for businesses who don’t handle confidential data.
You must provide proof of your identity and CSR in order to receive a Domain Validation Certificate. You can do this by using a WHOIS, which displays the domain and contact information of a domain, or documents and company details. Our support team can help you with any questions you may have or if you need assistance in generating your CSR.
